Senscience

In 1993, Shiseido Laboratories tapped into its vast scientific resources and introduced a breakthrough concept to the professional salon industry: hair care with a skin care approach.
Shiseido scientists drew comparisons between the hair cuticleand the epidermis of the skin, and theorised that the cellular chemistry of healthy hair could be mimicked in much the same way as the chemistry of healthy skin had been imitated in the skin care industry with successful results. The cuticle of the hair, like the epidermis of the skin, is a protective layer. And just as collagen is the ‘glue’ that keeps a healthy epidermis intact, the hair cuticle’s cortex contains a vital natural fluid called Cellular Membrane Complex (CMC) that ‘glues’ all the essential elements of a healthy cortex together.
The similarities do not end there. Just as vital cells and fluids are lost in the skin, hair loses its natural protein in the fibrils and CMC due to chemical processes, environmental stress, general maintenance and time itself.
After years of extensive research, Shiseido Laboratories discovered how to mimic the cellular chemistry of hair and created a scientific copy of CMC called Inner Cellular Membrane Complex (ICMC™),a balanced combination of 63% protein and 37% lipid that thoroughly penetrates the cortex and cuticle to impart unparalleled vitality and flexibility.
Shiseido then took things one step further and infused ICMC into a comprehensive collection of daily and intensive hair care to make hair more manageable, more styleable and healthier than ever before.
